At The Late Desk, we care about getting the story right. Here’s how we work.
We research from real sources.
Every article is built on primary and first-hand material wherever possible; the memoirs and interviews of the people involved, archive recordings, and reporting from the time. We favor original sources over second-hand retellings, and we link to them so you can read further yourself.
We tell you what we know, and what we don’t.
History isn’t always tidy. Accounts conflict. Memories differ. When the record is disputed or a fact can’t be confirmed, we say so plainly rather than guessing. We would rather leave a question open than fill it with something we can’t stand behind.
We don’t take sides.
Many of the stories we tell involve conflict between people the audience loved. Our job is to tell what happened with fairness and warmth for everyone involved and not to decide who was right. Where the record lets you form your own view, we leave that to you.
We treat these stories, and these people, with respect.
The people we write about were real, and many of our readers knew them the way you know old friends from television. We write about their lives – including the challenging parts with the dignity they deserve.
We correct our mistakes.
If we get something wrong, we want to fix it. Found an error? Email us at hipartnership499@gmail.com with the correction and, if possible, your source. We’ll review it and update the article.
